He has been registered as an internist since 2009 and has focused on diabetes care from the very start of his clinical career. Bas built much of his career at Radboud University Medical Center (Radboudumc) in Nijmegen, where he worked for over two decades as an internist specialising in diabetes, polypharmacy, adverse drug reactions, and clinical pharmacology. He completed his PhD on hypoglycaemia unawareness, under the supervision of Paul Smits and Bastiaan de Galan. As a certified clinical pharmacologist, he served for twelve years as a member of the Medical Ethics Review Committee (METC) and holds BROK certification, reflecting his expertise in the ethical and regulatory frameworks governing clinical research.

Throughout his career, Bas has combined clinical practice with a deep commitment to medical education at Radboud University, including curriculum development, leadership of the master's clinical reasoning assessment, and coordination of the first-year Homeostasis quarter. In December 2024, he was appointed Associate Professor with a focus on the development of professional and scientific integrity in medical education.
