Shanti Kok
Shanti Kok is a PhD candidate at Amsterdam UMC / University of Amsterdam, where she conducts her doctoral research within the group led by Prof. Max Nieuwdorp. With a background in biomedical and life sciences, her work examines how interactions between intestinal microbes and host physiology influence immune responses and metabolic regulation in type 1 diabetes, combining perspectives from microbiology, immunology and metabolism. She is also involved in the MARVEL cohort study, a large prospective cohort study within all Diabeter Clinics to evaluate role of residual beta-cell fucntion, gut microbiota and development of complications in T1D.
Through her research, Shanti contributes to fundamental and translational studies that aim to support the development of more targeted and biologically informed approaches to diabetes care.
