Richard IJzerman
Richard IJzerman, MD, PhD, is an internist-endocrinologist who combines clinical care at the Diabeter Centre Amsterdam with his work at Amsterdam UMC / Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He provides specialised care for adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and related endocrine and metabolic conditions.
Alongside his clinical work, Richard is active in research with a focus on the links between metabolic disease, obesity and brain function, exploring how hormonal and metabolic pathways may contribute to long-term outcomes in people living with diabetes. He is also a member of the Amsterdam Gastroenterology Endocrinology Metabolism (AGEM) Research Board.
By working across patient care and academic research, he contributes to the translation of scientific insights into practical improvements in diabetes management.
