Per Winterdijk
Per Winterdijk, MD, is a pediatrician-diabetologist at Diabeter Netherlands, where he has been providing specialised care for children, adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes since 2008. He studied medicine at the University of Groningen and completed his paediatric training at Radboud University Nijmegen.
Per lives with type 1 diabetes himself, an experience that informs his empathetic approach to clinical care and education. He is committed to helping young people and families navigate the challenges of daily diabetes management, with attention to both medical and psychosocial aspects of care.
His clinical and research interests focus on emotional well-being and psychological factors in people with type 1 diabetes. In this context, he works closely with psychologist and researcher Giesje Nefs on integrating psychosocial insights into clinical care and research at Diabeter.
Per is a member of professional organisations including the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the Psychosocial Aspects of Diabetes Study Group (PSAD) and the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD).
