Nordin Hanssen
Nordin Hanssen, MD, PhD, is an internist and vascular medicine specialist with a focus on diabetes-related vascular and metabolic disease. He is involved in the clinical care of adults with type 1 diabetes at the Diabeter Centre Amsterdam, alongside his academic role at Amsterdam UMC / University of Amsterdam.
His work centres on understanding mechanisms that contribute to complications of type 1 diabetes, including the influence of the gut microbiome on residual beta-cell function and immune balance, as well as pathways underlying atherosclerotic disease. Through his combined clinical and research activities, he aims to translate biological insights into improved approaches to diabetes care.
In this dual setting, Nordin connects academic research with everyday clinical practice, contributing to innovation and continuous improvement in the management of people living with diabetes.
