Elena Rampanelli

Elena Rampanelli is an Associate Professor and Principal Investigator at Amsterdam UMC and the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on host–microbiota interactions in diabetes, with particular attention to how gut microbial communities and their metabolites influence immune and metabolic pathways involved in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

She combines mechanistic laboratory research with translational and clinical studies, aiming to identify microbial-derived targets relevant to diabetes pathogenesis and progression. Dr. Rampanelli is an active member of interdisciplinary research programs at Amsterdam UMC and has received competitive funding for her work in metabolic and immune-mediated disease.

Since the establishment of the Diabeter Centre Amsterdam (DCA), her research activities are also embedded within the DCA/Diabeter NL context, strengthening the connection between fundamental research and clinical diabetes care.
