Landspítali Reykjavik Extends CloudCare Partnership into Third Year

Reykjavik, Iceland — Landspítali University Hospital has prolonged its partnership with CloudCare, entering the third year of remote diabetes monitoring for people with type 1 diabetes across its adult and paediatric departments.

Since launching in 2024, CloudCare has fundamentally changed how Landspítali delivers diabetes care. The system enables clinicians to monitor glucose data remotely, prioritise patients based on need, and intervene proactively rather than relying solely on scheduled appointments.

Key outcomes achieved:

~70% reduction in service demand for patients with good glucose management

~70% increase in service for patients with suboptimal control who need it most

500+ patients actively monitored through the platform

Over 60% increase in clinic capacity

Steinunn Arnardóttir, specialist in endocrinology at Landspítali, noted that the remote monitoring system allows the team to follow patients with type 1 diabetes in near real-time, reading data within days rather than waiting months between scheduled visits. If something changes, the team can act immediately.

Marta Serwatko, digital development specialist at Landspítali, shared that the experience has been highly positive, describing the model as "Hospital at Home" — delivering care when patients need it, rather than only during pre-booked appointments.

During a recent in-person visit, CloudCare Diabeter experts and the Landspítali team shared best practices and aligned on next steps to extract even greater value from population management as the programme continues to scale.
